On Sunday, September 30th, Republicans in Congress let the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) expire for the SECOND TIME on their watch.
Every state and county in the nation has benefited from LWCF, all without taxpayers spending a single tax dollar. Since 1965, LWCF has funded 42,000 projects across the country that have tremendous economic benefits and returns on investment for the country. In fact, studies show that each dollar spent on LWCF has the potential to generate twice that amount in economic activity. Additionally, our outdoor recreation contributes $887 billion annually to the economy and supports 7.6 million jobs.
There is no excuse for letting LWCF expire. Ranking Member Raúl M. Grijalva and Natural Resources Democrats voted to permanently reauthorize LWCF in Committee and have called on leadership to hold a vote on the House floor.
Two weeks before it expired, @NRDems tweeted an LWCF success EVERY HOUR to highlight the tremendous impact that LWCF has had in communities across the nation.
